| This tale was inspired by the seven-page biography of Anne Bonny published in London in 1724. The final paragraph reads: “She was continued in prison, to the time of her laying in, and afterwards reprieved from time to time; but what became of her since, we cannot tell; only this we know, that she was not executed" | ||||||||

Two years later, in 1720, Anne was captured by the British, convicted of piracy on the high seas, and sentenced to hang. She told the Admiralty Judge she was pregnant. “So you’re pleading the belly,” he said, and ordered her examined by a physician, who confirmed the pregnancy. Anne was never paroled, never pardoned, never set free, yet the Colonial Office has no record that she died in prison. How she escaped and what became of her is lost to history. Anne Bonny – Tale of a Lady Pirate is an adult action/adventure story that fills in the gaps left in the historical record. |
